What a real tanning gummy has to do.
A tanning gummy is a pigment-delivery system. The product works if, and only if, the pigments it delivers are the ones with real human clinical evidence for skin tone and photoprotection, at the doses those trials used.
The right actives.
Astaxanthin and lycopene are the two carotenoids with the strongest human data for skin outcome. Everything else in this category is marketing.
Clinical-range doses.
Roughly 4 to 12 mg per day of astaxanthin and 5 to 10 mg per day of lycopene, matching the ranges in published trials (Ito 2018 at 4 mg, Tominaga 2012 at 6 mg). Sprinkle doses of 1 mg of each are label theater.
Third-party HPLC potency testing, every batch.
Heavy metals, microbial, identity, and quantitative trans-astaxanthin assay by HPLC. Without it, the label number is a marketing claim, not a measurement.
Transparent sourcing and delivery.
Astaxanthin from Haematococcus pluvialis microalgae. Lycopene from non-GMO tomato extract. A lipid-matrix delivery system, because both actives are fat-soluble and absorb poorly without one.
Zero beta carotene, zero canthaxanthin.
Beta carotene produces an unnatural orange cast at supplement doses and has a documented lung cancer risk signal in smokers (ATBC 1994, CARET 1996). Canthaxanthin is restricted for skin-tanning use in multiple jurisdictions due to retinal pigment deposit reports.
